A Silpat Mat is the perfect alternative for someone who is not interested in having a constant supply of baking parchment paper sheets in their kitchen. This is a convenient product and easy to clean and store.
Whether you use a Silpat Silicone Mat or baking parchment sheets, either product will improve the over all quality of your cookies and other baked goods. However, a Silpat will never run out and is easily washed and stored.
A Silpat baking mat is the name brand of a silicone non-stick surfce product. When used it has the same effect as parchment paper in that it produces smooth bottomed evenly browned baked goods. Silpat, although a name brand, has become synonymous with all silicone baking mats.
A silicone mat is nice to have as you can clean it with hot soapy water and store it, ready to be used again. You can buy a wide variety of silicone based baking products. You can buy a silicone in cake pan form, bread pan form, muffin pan form, and then the flat sheets for cookies. Baked goods will slide out effortlessly and cleanly. However, if you do a lot of baking you do have to have one of every kind in your kitchen to enjoy the benefits in all your baking. Parchment paper, although needing to be replaced, can line any of your standard baking pans and have the same effect as it is also a silicone based product. Parchment baking paper sheets can also be used more than once in some instances before they brown on the edges and need to be thrown out. Either way both products make baking easier, and Silpat Mats are a good investment.
